The heat is on

Serendipity's original Frrrozen Hot Chocolate...

The Christmas decorations at Serendipity shouldn't be missed. This picture makes me happy year round!

I must have lived in the South in another life, because the heat doesn't really bother me. Granted those first moments when I get into my car are brutal, but give me 100 degrees over 10 degrees any day! However, the summer heat in NYC can be extremely tough. There's no better way to cool off than a visit to Serendipity III for their famous, and original, Frrrozen Hot Chocolate. I can vouch that the mint and peanut butter versions are equally as good.

Serendipity is every girl's dream restaurant. Tiffany lamps hang above the first floor eating area, and the second floor, a bright pink room, is packed with cozy tables and vintage wrought iron chairs.

Looking to do some shopping after your visit? Serendipity is located just steps away from Bloomingdale's flagship store on 59th street and Lexington Avenue. I also reccommend venturing further up town, about a twenty minute walk, to Madison Avenue to stop in at the Lilly Pulitzer and Jack Rogers flagship stores as well.

To finish off your day, watch Serendipity, featuring John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale. It is one of my favorite romantic comedies, and yes, they do eat at Serendipity!

FYI: this summer Dunkin' Donuts introduced its own version of the Frozen Hot Chocolate. I tried it and felt that it was sweet and refreshing but was reminiscent of an iced chocolate milk. It hardly compared to Serendipity's rich iced chocolate concoction shown above.

Let me know what you think!

Best,

Theresa

It was a time of wisdom, it was a time of foolishness

Picture of the U.S. Capitol building, taken in 2009, from the outdoor balcony of the Newseum

I have bit the blogging bullet! I've always been against the idea of starting my own blog. I was too busy, and the blogging world had already become too saturated. Yet, over the past year I found myself reading, and becoming a daily follower, of various fashion and lifestyle blogs. After coming up with a few blogging topics of my own, I decided to take the plunge!

This fall I will be entering my junior year of college. For the past two years I've attended college in New York City at the Fashion Institute of Technology. I entered FIT with a goal: to one day become a fashion editor at a major fashion publication. After my first internship at a fashion magazine, I concluded that the fashion industry, and fashion journalism, wasn't what I had so passionately imagined it to be. I looked into broadcast journalism and quickly became intrigued.

Flash forward to my sophomore year. I completed two semester-long internships at a major news broadcasting company, and learned a tremendous amount. Working in the media industry is like a real life twitter feed. It's continuously sending out new information, and you have to be able to keep up. Although I love New York City, and had an amazing two years at FIT, I couldn't see myself having a future career in fashion. Instead, the news industry has captured my attention, specifically political news. What better city to delve into the heart of politics than Washington D.C?!

In a little over a month, I'll be moving to Washington D.C., to attend Catholic University, yes that university with the same-sex dorms...a post on that to follow soon. This blog will cover the ins and outs of city life, from my favorite things to see and do in New York, as well as my discoveries in D.C. I still love fashion, especially anything preppy, so expect many posts on my latest finds and purchases. Check back for weekly political news updates and summaries as well. Being informed and in fashion--what could be better?

The title of this post comes from the first sentence of Charles Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities. Will it be a wise or foolish decision to enter the blogosphere? Keep reading to find out!

Best,

Theresa
